Good Practices: |
Pond preparation practices: To provide the shrimp with a clean pond bottom and good, stable water quality. |
Bad Practices: |
No Proper seepage |
Suggestions Given: |
|
Increase the water holding capacity of the ponds to reduce disease risks & to reduce the excessive reliance on water exchange, pond water holding capacity has to be increased maintaining water depth at minimum water level of 1.2 meter at the middle. |

Good Practices: |
Completely drain out the water from the pond , complete draining fish and crustaceans from previous crops in the pond. if it is not possible to drain the water fallow wet preparation method. |
Bad Practices: |
water checks in irregular frequency. |
Suggestions Given: |
|
Remove the organic waste from pond bottom:Make sure that the displaced organic waste does not enter the pond again through rain water. if it is difficult to completely remove the black soil, plough when it is wet and let it dry. |

Good Practices: |
Biosecurity: Certain extent of bio security measures are carried out in some of farms like bird netting , crab fencing etc... but most of farms are lack of proper biosecurity. |
Bad Practices: |
Stocking Density: The Stocking density of shrimp post larvae in most of pond are in range of 70-100 no/ m2. Also highest stocking density of shrimp post larvae in some of ponds are above 120 to 150 no/ m2. |
Suggestions Given: |
|
Stocking: The stocking of quality L.vannamei post larvae PL 12 - 16 are procured from the shrimp hatcheries after quality and PCR tests. |

Good Practices: |
It is important that fish farmers keep track of inputs and outputs so that they can easily calculate production costs ,sales, and net - income ,to evaluate the overall economic performance of the farm venture or enterprise. |
Bad Practices: |
without accurate farm records , a farmer will be unable to tell whether he / she has made profit or loss |
Suggestions Given: |
|
Accurate record keeping helps the fish farmer to learn from past mistakes or errors whereby reducing risk, hazards and costs of production in subsequent culture cycles. |

1. Proper water management
2. Using the aeration solutions
3. Using the best aeration solutions
4.Providing quality Feed and proper maintenance and management. Qualitative and dependable feed must given to the shrimps to ensure faster growth.
|
Bad Practices: |
Poor water quality , pond bottom sludge accumulation, and plankton blooms . |
Suggestions Given: |
|
It is best to fallow biosecurity and water management best practices to reduce the risk of its occurrence. |

Good Practices: |
Shrimps require a good flow of oxygen in order to survive and grow. and this can only be done with the help of mechanical aerators. These aerators will keep the temperature of the water to its optimal level and maintaining water PH. |
Bad Practices: |
Over Aeration leads to Gas bubble disease |
Suggestions Given: |
|
Aerators keep predators away as well as help in keeping the water free from diseases, germs and unwanted weeds. clean water makes it a great place for the fresh water shrimps to survive and grow faster. |

Good Practices: |
Biosecurity in shrimp farming involves stocking disease free seed, pond preparation, water screening, prevention of entry of disease carriers, personal hygiene &sanitation.A ideal FCR results in model growth rate, healthy shrimp & clean bottom conditions |
Bad Practices: |
Over stocking and over feeding with increase stress to the shrimps and a commonly found impact of this is growth retardation. |
Suggestions Given: |
|
Providing quality feed and proper maintenance & management. Qualitative and dependable feed must be given to the shrimps to ensure faster growth.offering the best suppliments.Using the best aeration solutions. |

Good Practices: |
Gypsum (calcium sulfate) is more soluble than liming materials and can be used to increase the total hardness of waters beyond that possible with lime, although it doesn't neutralise acidity7. |
Bad Practices: |
Gypsum works for water clarification by attracting clay particles together to form clumps or what we call floccules. As the clay particles continue to clump they eventually increase in weight and settle to the bottom of the pond of lake. |
Suggestions Given: |
|
The low cost and high solubility of gypsum makes it ideal for use in the maintenance of calcium levels in hatchery situations. |

Good Practices: |
Stocking density:
Penaeus Vannamei are amenable to culture at very high stocking densities of upto 150/m2 in pond culture, and even as high as 400/m2 in controlled recirculated tank culture. |
Bad Practices: |
intensive culture systems require a much higher degree of control over environmental parameters, it enables the production of high numbers of shrimp in limited areas, resulting in better productivity per unit area than that of p.monodon. |
Suggestions Given: |
|
Both P. monodon and P. stylirostris can be aggressive, have high protein requirements ,and may be more demanding of high water quality , making them difficult to culture as intensively as P.Vannamei. |

Good Practices: |
Gypsum treatment reduced phytoplankton abundance by lowering dissolved orthophosphate concentration through calcium phosphate precipitation. Gypsum also reduced carbonate concentration through calcium carbonate precipitation. |
Bad Practices: |
Dosage: Ponds turbid with suspended clay particles were treated with 250- 500 mg gypsum/L |
Suggestions Given: |
|
The ponds were treated with enough gypsum to will equalize hardness and alkalinity. |

Good Practices: |
Maintaining a healthy pond bottom is essential in all types of culture system. check the bottom soil weekly for the presence of black soil or bad smell. if the soil is black or smells it means pond bottom has deteriorated. |
Bad Practices: |
During routine application of Agri .lime to the pond, spread more lime in areas where the pond bottom is bad. Clean feeding area can be maintained with adequate number of properly positioned of aerators. |
Suggestions Given: |
|
Avoid feeding in areas where the soil is black . check the feeding rate, reduce the feeding rate for couple of days , change 5-10 cm of bottom water while exercising precautions. Do regular chain dragging at feeding areas to get organic matter. |
